OUR HISTORY

¿CON QUIÉN TRABAJAMOS?

Compañía Occidental Mexicana, S.A. de C.V., (COMSA), is a gypsum mining company that was founded in 1923 and established in San Marcos Island, Baja California Sur (B.C.S.). Until September 1978, COMSA was owned by Kaiser Gypsum, a North American company dedicated to producing, selling and distributing wallboard. In September 1978, the majority of the company was purchased by a group of Mexican shareholders, who acquired 51% of Kaiser shares.

In 2009, Georgia-Pacific sold its participation in COMSA to the Mexican shareholders and since then, the company’s capital is completely owned and operated by the Mexican national group.

COMSA exports 95% of its gypsum production and supports three main industries: wallboard, cement and agriculture. The main destinations of the San Marcos Island gypsum are: United States, Mexico, Central America, South America and Japan.
